The River Safari (河川生态园) is Asia's first and only river-themed wildlife park, built over 12 hectares (30 acres) and nestles between the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. One crowd-pleaser was the Amazon Flooded Forest, featuring one of the world's largest collections of freshwater creatures, including the giant river otter, piranha and the manatee (sea cow). History: The River Safari opened to the public, soft opening, on 3 April 2013, Wednesday.
This $160-million attraction is the latest addition to the Wildlife Reserves Singapore's portfolio. During the soft-launch period, visitors will be charged a discounted ticket rate of $25 for adults; $16 for children aged between three and twelve; and $12.50 for senior citizen above 60 years.
The Giant Panda Forest opening ceremony was on 28 November 2012 by Mr S Iswaran. Giant pandas, Kai Kai (凯凯) and Jia Jia (嘉嘉) make their first public appearance on 29 November 2012. The two pandas are here for 10 years as part of a joint collaboration between China Wildlife Conservation Association and WRS to raise public awareness on wildlife conservation and develop a breeding programme for these endangered animals.
Conceptualisation of River Safari began in early 2007, and its construction was officially announced to the public on 11 February 2009.
River Safari Cruise was launched on 1 August 2014, it is a slow, scenic boat ride along the Upper Seletar Reservoir for visitors to enjoy nature's tranquillity. Visitors may spot wildlife such as storks, herons or other wildlife.
