On 10 February 1942 the Japanese forces suffered their heaviest losses while moving up the Kranji River, which caused them to panic and nearly aborted the operation.



Tomoyuki Yamashita was the Army Commander of the 25th Army which captured Malaya and Singapore during World War II. In July 1942, Yamashita was posted to Manchuria without visiting Tokyo or gaining an audience with the Emperor. But by 10 February 1943, Yamashita was promoted to General. He was appointed Commanding General of the 14th Area Army to defend Philippines from an impending American invasion.




The Woodlands MRT line was constructed in the early 1990s, connecting Choa Chu Kang to Yishun. The S$1.3 billion MRT line was officially opened on 10 February 1996 by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. Also known as Woodlands extension line, it is made up of six MRT stations: Yew Tee, Kranji, Marsiling, Woodlands, Admiralty and Sembawang.
